Thanksgiving 2006 Winning Recipe

Recipe Title: Stuffed Onion Nuggets

Ingredients:

4 jumbo yellow onions
1 cup fresh mushrooms
1 tbsp. butter or margarine
1 1/2 cups White sauce
Cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions:

Peel onions. Cut off root ends. Slice 1/3 off onion tops (resrve). Hollow onions with spoon, leaving shells 3/8’s inch thick with bottoms intact. Chop the onion centers and mushrooms. Saute in butter over medium heat for 5 minutes.
Prepare white sauce. Add to onion-mushroom mixture.
Firmly pack mixture into onion shells. Sprinkle generously with shredded cheese.
Place in baking dish. Cover. Bake in 350 degree oven for 30 minutes.
Remove cover for last 10 minutes to brown.

Prep Time: 15 Minutes
Total Time: 45 Minutes

Additional Comments:
This is a great dish for both onion and non onion lovers.
